Winter 2019/2020 in Europe saw generally wetter than average conditions across most of western and northern Europe, with above average precipitation and above average soil moisture. Western Norway saw much above average precipitation, due to sustained high amounts of rainfall throughout the period, in particular during January and February. The southern and eastern parts saw generally drier than average conditions, especially so for soil moisture in the southern Iberian Peninsula, most of the regions adjacent to the Adriatic Sea, and over a large region to encompassing the Black Sea from west to east. Temperature was above average across the whole continent, especially so in the northeast.
